Kursbeschreibung

UNU-FLORES-Challenge is a technology-promoting service-learning project related to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). Contributing to SDG-Campus, it is conjointly supported by UNU-FLORES and operates under the service-learning module praxiSDG in methodological and organizational terms. Participants are committing themselves to sustainability efforts of UNU-FLORES learning to act as change agents in programme design, strategy or operative activities (service). Eager to leaving meaningful handprints, participants will design their individual projects in a collaborative way, including precisely formulated project goals for self-determined, sustainability-related action. This enables participants not only to learn about the significance of volunteerism, but also to evaluate and reflect on its opportunities and risks vis-à-vis their individual study contexts (learning). That's where you will find all relevant information, including purpose, objectives, schedule and contents, of course! Please note, this is an interdisciplinary, international blended-learning format in English.

UNU-FLORES-Challenge addresses:

Food Security and Sustainability: The challenge examines the role of sustainable farming in achieving SDG-2, asking how farming practices can ensure food security without depleting environmental resources or exacerbating social inequalities.

Sustainable Agriculture Practices: This inquiry focuses on the sustainability of current agricultural practices and their effectiveness in providing long-term food access, particularly in regions with varying socio-economic conditions.

UNU-FLORES-Challenge aims at:

  • Defining Sustainable Farming: What constitutes sustainable farming, and how does it differ from organic farming?
  • Comparative Analysis: Evaluating environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainable versus organic farming.
  • Contextual Sustainability: How sustainable farming practices can adapt to various socio-economic conditions, particularly in the Global South.
  • Food Security and Climate Resilience: Exploring the role of sustainable farming in addressing global food security amidst climate challenges.

By accomplishing UNU-FLORES-Challenge you will be able to:

  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review to understand sustainable farming practices and their diverse impacts;
  • Compare and contrast sustainable farming with organic farming, examining the distinctions and overlaps;
  • Investigate how sustainable farming can be contextually defined based on socio-economic and climate realities, particularly in vulnerable regions like the Global South.

Moreover, you will be liaising with colleagues of UNU-FLORES for considering potential career opportunities.
