The time to achieve the global SDGs is advancing rapidly. Currently, more than half of the time allotted for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has already passed - and we must therefore ask ourselves: Where do we stand? How do we monitor our progress – or lack of progress – towards sustainability? And what lessons can be learned from this monitoring process?

This course will provide you with knowledge about SDG monitoring through a series of sequential lessons arranged in three parts.

  • Part A - fundamentals of the UN SDG monitoring system and its methods (exemplified with a focus on SDG 13 Climate Action)
  • In Part B - practices and examples for SDG monitoring with a focus on “Nature-based Solutions” (NBS) for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  •  Part C - tools and techniques in SDG monitoring and their contribution to participation and data collection.

We end this course with reflections on integrating NBS and SDG monitoring into planning at multiple spatial scales – and hope to provide you with valuable ideas and knowledge on the path to driving transformation towards a more sustainable future!
